QEP Overview Planning Development Implementation News

I

n December 2007, The University of Texas at Arlington was reaffirmed by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).  As part of the reaffirmation process, UT Arlington created a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) titled “Active Learning: Pathways to Higher Order Thinking at UT Arlington.” Through this project, we will be exploring ways in which modified teaching practices – practices that explicitly increase student engagement – might improve our students’ capacity for top-quality critical thinking: application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation.

Under the direction of former QEP Coordinator, Dr. Victoria Farrar-Myers, a completed QEP was submitted to SACS on January 15, 2007 and was evaluated by a SACS on-site review committee during the week of February 26 – March 2, 2007.  Implementation of the QEP began in August 2007, under the direction of Dr. David J. Silva, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs. Phase One of the project will continue through the summer semester 2010.

The QEP is the research component of UT Arlington’s Active Learning Initiative.
