Implementation

Since the review and initial feedback of the SACS On-Site Review Committee (February 26 – March 2, 2007), UT Arlington has been developing various aspects of its Active Learning Initiative, including the QEP. As the evolving implementation timeline indicates, the University’s approach to carrying out the QEP is responsive, proactive, and guided by the basic principles of formative assessment.

Spring 2007

  • Continued Community of Practice sessions for QEP’s Pilot Project PIs
  • Active Learning teaching conversations
  • Speakers and workshops
  • Active Learning survey
  • Launch of the Active Learning Portal
  • Putting implementation structure in place

Summer 2007

  • Training of Assessment Assistants for each of the QEP Pilot Projects (August 21, 2007)

Fall 2007

  • 10 of the 12 QEP Pilot Projects begin implementation: first day of the fall semester (August 27, 2007)
  • University-wide Workshop on Effective Grading and Assessment with Virginia Anderson (September 20, 2007)
  • Commission on Colleges reaffirms UT Arlington’s accreditation at Annual Meeting (December 2007)

Spring 2008

  • Initial analysis of the QEP data begins
  • Project 11 (of 12) enters the QEP; project 12 (of 12) is withdrawn
  • First class of “Innovative Teaching Mini-Grants” awarded for AY 2008-09
  • Active Learning Workshop held to showcase efforts by UT Faculty (April 23, 2008)

Summer 2008

  • Analysis of data continues as project 10 (of 12) is withdrawn
  • QEP PIs participate in a one-day workshop on Course-Based Assessment and interpretation of IDEA results
  • All 10 remaining Pilot Projects approved for continuation into AY 2008-09

Fall 2008

  • Implementation and analysis continues
  • University-wide workshops on teaching “Generation NeXt” with Mark Taylor (September 25 & 26, 2008)
    • Session 1: Generation NeXt Comes to College
    • Session 2: A Pedagogy for Today’s Learners
    • Session 3: Teaching for Meaningful Student Change

Spring 2009

  • Implementation and analysis continues
  • Second class of (the renamed) “Innovative Teaching Grants” awarded for AY 2009-10
